Old Lutheran Quote of the Day

We are not at liberty to choose whom we will love. And if we love all people from our heart and demonstrate this with our deeds, we are doing nothing remarkable. Love is our debt. Every other person is our creditor; and we are his debtor. Even if we do not otherwise owe anyone, we owe him love. In vain we boast that we have given each person what is his, even when we have not loved each one. In vain we boast of our generosity and high-mindedness when we show love to our enemies. We are then doing only what we are obligated to do. - C. F. W. Walther, *God Grant It* p. 174
