Old Lutheran Quote of the Day

It is not anything I did which places me in a sorrowful world, with a frail body, a clouded mind, a sad heart, and under subjection to death; it is not what I did, but what I am that subjects me to these, and I am what I am because I spring from Adam, and because he fell. --Krauth, CR p. 413

Well, there is a nice way of distinguishing the difference between being born in sin and being born in sin. For the Orthodox, being born in sin hasn't anything to do with what the newborn has done, but with who he is. He hasn't yet done any sin, hasn't yet acquired any guilt, but the problem, and it's a much worse one than guilt, is who he is.
